SILENT SORROW
Pregnancy Loss
by Ingrid Koln, M.S.W. and Perry-Lynn Moffitt
With Isabelle A. Wilkins,M.D.

This book is filled with compassion, understanding and suggestions for dealing with pregnancy loss. Ingrid Koln cofounded the Pregnancy Loss Support Program at the New York Section of the National Council of Jewish Women. Perry-Lynn Moffit was a member of the program’s first support group.

All types of loss are addressed, including some of the less talked about situations such as eptopic and molar pregnancies and impaired pregnancies . It explains the grief process well. Not only of the parents(separately and as couple) but of children at home. And unlike a lot of books it contains more than one or two pages about the grief of grandparents, the subject has its own chapter.

Silent Sorrow includes a chapter on rituals that parents can do to say good-bye. The index list addresses for Memory Books designed to create keepsakes. . Bible scripture, music, responsive readings and prayers are in the book. Remember, it is never too late to have a ritual for your baby. If you did not have a service at the time of your loss, it may help to have one on the anniversary date. Anything that validates your child’s brief life and helps to bring “closure” for your family, is a good thing.

This is a big book, about 425 pages. The information is given in a concise, understandable way but because of the length you may want to start with the issues that are of particular importance to you..at this moment. You can save the book to read later on as new things, like the next pregnancy arise.
