“Therefore, there have been clamors among individuals and groups for certain people, including my humble self, to come forward as a potential gubernatorial contender in the state under the canopy of our great Democratic Party of peoples (PDP); someone who has the ability to support the great works and fine leadership of our courageous and visionary Governor, Chief NyesomWike.
“Newspapers, electronic and social media were all inundated with such calls from every nook and cranny of the state, beckoning me to simply declare my interest.
“After careful consideration and extensive consultations, I wholeheartedly agreed to run for Governor of Rivers State on the platform of the PDP and also got the nomination and nomination forms. interest in accordance with our party guidelines.
“This singular expression of interest has gladdened the hearts of many of you, my ardent supporters in and out of state.
“Even without my consent, many of you have continued to campaign for me through various sections of mass media and other forums just for me.
“Unfortunately, that hope, that faith and that joy may seem to have been shattered. This is the reason for this special message of hope and appreciation to all of you, my dearest friends, my supporters and my people.
“Let me first assure you that no hope is lost. The choice of who succeeds our dear Governor is an exclusive party matter. That is what party loyalty is. is not a personal matter.
“On Wednesday, May 25, 2022, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers State Chapter spoke out and a gubernatorial candidate emerged.
“As a faithful, loyal and committed party man, and immediate chairman of the party under whose watch, by the grace of God, the party won the gubernatorial election in the state in 2015 and 2019, respectively, I must abide by party decisions at all times, even when the decisions conflict with my personal beliefs.
“As a result, I have decided to step down and not contest the gubernatorial primary in the interests of the party.
“I hereby submit and surrender to the decision of the party. The election is not, and should not be a do-or-die affair. Moreover, power comes from God. I cannot be a party to anything that might obstruct the course of our party’s victory at the state and national levels, or cause disaffection in our party leadership and membership.
“So I urge my loyal supporters across the state not to be dismayed or lose hope because where there is a will, there must be a way.
“I sincerely ask you to take any development regarding the gubernatorial primary in the state in good faith. A renowned writer once said, ‘When hope is lost, when faith dies, man is dead”.
“As long as we stay alive and trust in God, there are surely better days ahead.
