Thank you for being part of the Sunil show. You’ve mastered the art of investing and stock picking, but what about mental fitness? How do you manage this in your hectic daily routine?
Fitness brings a harmonious balance to one’s life when physical and mental fitness are combined. Regarding mental well-being, the mind must be in perfect harmony with the environment.

Synchronizing your mind with the environment ensures a stress-free atmosphere. So how do you ensure that you are in harmony with your environment?

One of the best ways to do this is not to think too much about the past or worry too much about the future.

To live in the present is to become aware of one’s environment. Try to absorb what is available around you to reduce stress and get mentally fit.

During my career, I have seen many people go through stress in a work environment. And one of the reasons is that some of these people could not accept their job profile.

In other cases, many experienced strong friction between what they wanted to do and what they were doing. All of these factors lead to stress.

Stress occurs when there is a lack of harmony between what you are supposed to do and what you are doing.

Therefore, loving what you do is crucial to help beat stress. I practice this daily – I make sure I enjoy what I’m doing to stay at the top of my mental abilities.


Is there a specific form of yoga that you practice?
I practice
vrajasana, pranayama, anuloma, viloma, kapalbati etc. every day. I also make sure to incorporate stretches, spot runs, and daily meditations.

All of these activities ensure that my mind and body are working together in unison.

We are constantly fighting against the mind and the environment for most of the day.

Therefore, I consciously take time to focus on pranayam, meditation and yoga to do some introspection and understand what I am doing and if I am doing the right thing.

And that’s why I make sure to spend at least an hour in the morning being aware of the present moment with my mind and body aware of my surroundings.

What about meditation? Is there a specific modality you follow when it comes to meditation?
I practice a basic form of meditation; pay attention to when I inhale and exhale. This action helps to focus on a particular activity.

Over the years I have seen that one of the reasons most people experience stress is because they are multitasking beyond their abilities.

Multitasking does not allow you to pay due attention to a specific action. And that creates friction between what you’re supposed to deliver and what you’re not supposed to.

Concentrating and concentrating on one thing at a time will allow you to complete that job in the shortest possible time. Moreover, the output will be far superior in terms of quality.

For example, when you inhale, you should focus only on the inhale. So don’t worry about the expiration. Likewise, when you exhale, don’t worry about inhaling.

Being in the moment helps you improve your focus and gives you peace of mind because there is only one thing you are focusing on at any given time. And that’s the main form of meditation that I practice.

How have meditation and yoga helped you at work or in your personal life? Do you recommend this to every investor/trader?

I strongly believe that meditation and yoga are very helpful in focusing, introspecting, and moving quality with yourself without being distracted by digital gadgets or other people’s conversations.

I recommend every Indian citizen to practice yoga and meditation rather than limiting themselves to traders or investors. One particular comes to mind that reinforces my belief in the power of meditation and yoga.

In 2018, 12 Thai boys were trapped in a cave for two weeks. They survived the ordeal of the cave by keeping calm through meditation.

No one cried and all 12 remained calm. It was amazing. This convinces me that despite all the resources at their disposal or no one to help them, meditation was the one crucial factor that helped keep the group alive.

I ask everyone to practice meditation and yoga to harmonize their mind, body and environment. Once this peace sets in, it becomes a self-healing property.

Investors and traders, in particular, experience intense mental stress during market movements. That is why they must practice Yoga and meditation.

This is because the market is beyond anyone’s control. It can fluctuate contrary to your expectations, and when something goes against expectations, it creates physical and mental stress. Yoga or meditation is the key to relieving and releasing physical tension.

Profits and losses are a part of life, and we know that every stock might not become a multibagger. What do you do on a bad day at work?
Good days and bad days are an integral part of our lives. The key to getting around them is not to get too excited on the good days or too discouraged on the bad ones.

Your mood or emotions should not revolve around your day but how you approach a bad day that defines you as a person and a character.

As soon as you accept that good and bad are an integral part of life, without reacting negatively, you will be able to go through life with ease.

I don’t think you need to do anything special when a day is bad. Because when you prepare your mindset, despite a good or a bad result, you know that it is a temporary phase that you can manage.

When investing in the stock market, we need to be mentally prepared that not all stocks will perform as expected.

The moment you accept this realization, you mentally arm yourself and prepare for any adverse outcome with calm and composure.

The problem is not a bad day. The issue is how you react to a bad day that defines whether it will turn into more trouble or limit the cascading effect.

Tell us how you were inspired to get mentally fit?
I realized the power of physical and mental fitness very early in life. I also drew several important values ​​from my family. We have always been very concerned about our physical and psychological well-being.

From yoga to eating sattvic foods, we have practiced them as part of our family culture.

Even at school, our teachers emphasized physical and mental fitness. So, I personally believe that fitness is very critical. But unfortunately, in India, many of us focus more on physical fitness than on mental well-being.
